re-entry

I was so excited to get to see you.
I had been waiting for it for a long time,
but now that the time is here
my excitement is not the same.

So much has changed for each of us,
so much has changed between us.
I am not the same girl you once knew,
and you no longer match my mind's picture of you.

I don't expect things to ever be the same,
I don't expect my old feelings to return,
but I do know that no matter what happens
I will always love you, my country, my heritage.
